 Mountain View Middle School

OUR PHILOSOPHY

In 1975 Blackfoot School District #55 began construction of a new school building where 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students would attend; that building was completed in time for the 1976-77 school year.  Blackfoot Junior High School students moved from their old school located at 50 S. Shilling Avenue into their new school located at 645 Mitchell Road.  Vaughn T. Hawkes was the principal that first year.

Blackfoot Junior High School became Mountain View Middle School beginning in the 1985-86 school year.  As a result of that change, 9th grade students were moved to Blackfoot High School.  In addition, all 6th grade students were moved from the various elementary schools in the district to Mountain View Middle School.

From 1992-94, Mountain View Middle School students attended school year-round.  Students were assigned to red, blue, and green tracks; they attended school for eight weeks, then had a four week break.  The community offered varied activities to off-track students.

In the fall of 1994, MVMS went back to a traditional school year schedule.  Sixth grade students were moved to the newly (re)opened Blackfoot Sixth Grade School in the old junior high school building on Shilling Avenue.  Since that time, only 7th and 8th grade students have attended MVMS.
